With MU facing Crystal Palace, we’ve decided to double up on MU’s defensive assets. Our picks are De Gea at GK and McGuire. Crystal Palace has been the worst offensive team this season with only 1 big chance created where 12 shots were taken with only 8 inside the box (worst in the league for all three statistical categories). Magurie could also be a source for attacking points as he tends to be dangerous atacking set pieces.
SHU allowed 0 big chances and only 2 shots inside the box in its last home game and defend very well at home. In the championship last season they kept 12 clean sheets at home with only 17 goals conceded out of 23 home matches which was the league best. Lundstram created 3 big chances (tied joint top in the league amongst defenders with TAA) and managed 3 shots (tied for 2nd amongst defenders) coupled with the potential for CS points, he is locked in to start in our GW 3 team.
Our final defensive pick is Danny Rose who has created 4 chances thus far (only behind TAA’s 5 chances created). Newcastle has conceded 4 goals in 2 games which promises attacking as well as CS’s returns for the spurs left back.
Picking Raheem Sterling is a no brainer. He is top for all key attacking stats and is playing a Bournemouth team who are posting some very bad defensive statistics. They have conceded 33 crosses and also 12 chances from the left flank where both are worst in the league. They have also conceded 6 big chances which is joint 2nd worst in the league, only behind West Ham (10). The worst part is that these stats were posted with promoted teams Sheffield United and Aston Villa. He is our Captaincy prime candidate for GW3.
We have decided to double up on City’s attacking prospects with the league’s best assist provider, KDB. He seems like he’s back to his best after a very low key previous season. He is dominating all the key assist statistics with 12 chances created with 5 big chances. He has also taken 4 shots with 2 inside the box.
We have actually tripled up with Spurs and MU’s players this GW with Erickson, Kane and Martial. Erickson was a game changer when he came in for a 26 minute cameo for Spurs’ opening fixture against Villa at home. Now that he seems settled and focused on Spurs, expect him to be either on the goals or assist. Kane took 8 shots where 4 were inside the box during their first home game and has the potential to score a goal or two in this game with Newcastle conceding 2 goals per game this season.
Martial is an OOP who is enjoying his time playing up top. He has scored 2 goals in as many games and could make it 3 in 3. MU has shored up its defense during the summer and this has given them the impetus to attack fluidly. Expect Martial to better his 2.5 shots per game average in this game with Crystal Palace deploying a more defensive approach.
We complete our 1st eleven selection with Mason Mount from Chelsea in midfield and the league’s top scorer Pukki up top. Mount is an offensive beast statistically creating 5 chances and taking 7 shots (3rd in the league) with 3 in the box and his opponent Norwich are very susceptible at the back where they have conceded 21 shots inside the box with 11 on target where both are 4th worst in the league. Chelsea themselves have been struggling defensively especially with Lampard’s more attack minded approach leaving creaks at the back. So step in Pukki. We expect the very attack minded Norwich team to carve out opportunities for their talisman. We expect this game to be a high scoring spectacle.
In case of any injuries to our main picks, we have gone with 2 reliable defensive picks in Dunk and Pieters. Dunk not only has the potential for CS points this GW where they face a Southampton team that is struggling to carve out chances away from home but he could also be at the end of headed goals at the other end. Pieters has also been impressive going forward with this revitalized Burnley team that seems to be playing very well after a season to forget last year. Our bench is rounded up with 2 non-starters in order to keep within the budget of 100 mill. We have selected Button (BHA) as our 4.0 GK and Wickham (4.5 FWD) who might get some playing time but unlikely to do much offensively against MU.
